SEASON NOTES

Des Moines Oak Leafs and Omaha Jr. Lancers represented the MHSHL at the USA Hockey High School National Championships-Division II. After both teams advanced to the semifinals, the two teams faced each other with Des Moines coming out on top 3-2 in overtime. Des Moines then fell short in the championship game by a score of 6-3 against Prep Hockey of Illinois.

Policy Changes:
1. Teams will once again participate in a mandatory handshake line at the conclusion of each game.
2. All Varsity games will now begin with a ten-minute warmup followed by an ice scrap and the start of the game on clean ice.
3. Jr. Varsity games will now begin with a five-minute warmup on clean ice followed by the start of the game.
4. The home team now has the option of shooting first or second during a shootout.
5. If alcohol is served at the arena during a League game, the team is no longer required to have a uniformed security officer present.

The Varsity and Jr. Varsity Championship Weekend is held at the MidAmerican RecPlex for the second year in a row. The number of teams eligible for the year-end Championship Weekend tournament returned to pre-pandemic levels. The top-eight teams at the end of the regular season qualified for the Varsity tournament, while the top-six Jr. Varsity teams qualified.
